Bard Urological, a division of CR Bard, was interested in tapping into Big Bang’s broad category experience and user-focused approach and tasked us with developing an innovative device used in the brachytherapy treatment for prostate cancer. Delivered in less than 25 months, the SourceLink™ Loader enables the real-time creation of therapeutic “strands” of radioactive seeds and loads them into a needle for implantation. SourceLink™ significantly reduces strand creation time and operator fatigue— an innovative solution honored with both the Chicago Athenaeum's Good Design Award and a Gold level Medical Design Excellence Award.

Bard also employed our extensive human factors and field research experience to develop handles for the Align™ Urethral Support System, a pioneering sub-urethral sling device intended for the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence (SUI). The procedure can be performed via two very different approaches with two different types of introducers, or hooks. The resulting production handles, with a unique shape for each approach, accommodate the physician’s different hand positions, reduce fatigue, communicate hook position, and increase precision.
